BASA 30 years old

It is with great pleasure that we can recognise a milestone in the sport of Broomball in Australia.

BASA (Broomball Association of South Australia is celebrating its 30th bitrthday in 2012.

Created as a social distraction 30 years ago by a few hardy soles some who are still playing in Adelaide, the sport has moved from earlier rinks to the current location at Thebarton when the old Payneham rink closed its doors many many years ago.

BASA members have attended every World Championship and can boast two Secretary Generals of the IFBA.

IFBA Worlds 20th Anniversary - more stories

After posting the information on the 20th anniversary of the worlds an email was received from Doug Nixon the IFBA Referee in Chief.

His email is reproduced below:

Yes I remember that also.

It was a great deal of fun. I played for the mens ( Roblin Millers ) and the Mixed ( Selkirk Flying Angels , who won the Mixed ).

We also beat Embrum in the Nationals that year , but did not meet them in the finals. I remember watching the Aussies and their kick passing.

20 Years - Aussies at the Worlds

A significant anniversary has arrived.

It is twenty years since the first IFBA World Broomball Championship - and there was an Aussie team present.

The first Worlds was held in Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. Australia had both a Mens and a Mixed team present. It is interesting to see that some of the team are still out there on the ice every week. For images and team members go to the BASA site at www.basa.org.au and look for the story at the top of the home page.

Many thanks to Kim Shapley for the information.
